Job Description

Catering consultants are responsible for overseeing the event planning service at select retail locations. This includes consulting with businesses and shoppers to plan various functions, working with departments to ensure orders are completed, and coordinating pick up and/or delivery of orders.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists customers and delivers premier customer service.
  • Works with store manager to execute overall sales goals for event planning.
  • Develops community calendars to help target specific businesses and community activities.
  • Dynamically sells products through the following:
  • Actively engages customers in discussion of products and services available and makes recommendations to customers based on discussions.
  • Consults with customers on various events such as birthday celebrations, lunches, sporting events, corporate meetings, and other group functions and provides customers with solutions for their events.
  • Operates software to assist in planning, and creating orders.
  • Processes orders for special events.
  • Delivers orders outside of store to customers’ events, when necessary.
  • Accepts and controls payment from customers as necessary in conjunction with customer service.
  • Orders and stocks paper goods as needed for in-store events.
  • Provides follow-up contact with customers to determine success of events.
  • Completes all documentation (financial information) required for tracking key performance indicators.
  • Maintains good public relations and follows up on customer and associate issues.
  • Ensures event planning area is maintained.
  • Maintains Publix’s high standards for product freshness and sanitation follows sanitation and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Enforces security and safety guidelines.
  • Maintains the customer mailing list by inputting customer data into the system and calendar based on information provided by customers.
  • Assists in other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age and
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with or exposure to event planning activities and/or hospitality industry.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • An eye for detail.
  • Ability to learn basic computer software.
  • Ability to read, write, and do simple math problems.
  • Ability to work independently, without close supervision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and willingness.
