About the Team
The General Liability Claims team plays a vital role in protecting Publix, supporting customers, and helping the company manage risk effectively. The team oversees a broad range of customer and liability claims, partnering with operational leaders, legal professionals, and external stakeholders to deliver fair, timely, and consistent claim resolutions. Through analytics, customer service, and sound claims practices, the team helps strengthen the customer experience while supporting long-term business success.
About the Opportunity
As Manager, General Liability Non-Litigated Claims, you will lead a large team responsible for handling non-litigated liability claims, including customer claims and attorney-represented matters that have not entered litigation. This role combines strategic leadership, operational management, and financial stewardship. You’ll influence claims strategy, establish performance standards, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that help reduce risk, improve customer outcomes, and enhance organizational performance.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the strategy, operations, and performance of a team responsible for non-litigated general liability claims. This includes non-litigated attorney represented claim, and self-represented customer claims including “high touch” claims that require additional oversight of complex or higher exposure general liability and/or auto claims where the customer may or may not be represented by counsel.
- Oversee investigations, evaluations, negotiations, and settlements to ensure consistent and effective claim resolution.
- Develop and implement claims handling standards, protocols, quality measures, and performance metrics that support operational excellence.
- Analyze claims data and industry trends to identify opportunities for risk reduction and process improvement.
- Partner with business leaders, legal professionals, and external stakeholders to address complex claims issues and support strategic objectives.
- Coach, develop, and mentor managers, supervisors, and claims professionals to build a high-performing organization.
- Monitor regulatory requirements and industry best practices to maintain compliance and strengthen claims operations.
- Provide leadership visibility into claims performance, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Seven or more years of general liability claims handling experience.
- Two or more years of leadership or supervisory experience within a claims environment.
- Ability to obtain a Florida All Lines Adjuster License and maintain required reciprocal licenses in states where Publix operates.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
- Strong knowledge of liability claims investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement practices.
- Understanding of civil law, legal procedures, litigation-related concepts, and applicable statutes.
- Experience using data and analytics to improve operational performance and business results.
- Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and team development skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field, or a master’s degree in any discipline.
- Ten or more years of general liability claims handling experience.
- Five or more years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Professional designations such as CCLA, SCLA, CPCU, ARM, or similar industry certifications.
- Active Florida All Lines Adjuster License.
- Experience leading large claims organizations and implementing operational improvement initiatives.
- Advanced proficiency with claims management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
