From Pharmacy Technician to Assistant Pharmacy Manager: Vanessa’s Journey of Growth 

Vanessa’s career at Publix has grown from purposeful beginnings, rooted in her passion, dedication, and commitment to patient care. Her foundation began in high school through a dual enrollment program. This experience introduced her to the world of pharmacy and helped set her career in motion.

“In 2019, I began my first role as a pharmacy technician,” Vanessa said.

From there, her career progressed — from technician to pharmacy intern, then graduate intern, and eventually a floating pharmacist. She credits the mentors and leaders who supported her along the way with helping her build confidence and strengthen her skills.

On January 31, 2026, she reached an incredible milestone in her journey: a promotion to Assistant Pharmacy Manager (APM) at the same store where she started. “It’s rewarding to grow in the same place where your career began,” she said. “It makes the accomplishment even more meaningful.”

Leading with purpose every day.

As an APM, Vanessa balances operational responsibilities with a strong focus on supporting her technicians, verifying prescriptions, managing inventory, educating patients, and administering vaccinations. “Patient care is at the center of everything we do,” she explained. “As a leader, I set the example. I never ask my team to do something I wouldn’t do myself.”

Making a difference. 

One pivotal moment came while working as a floater, when Vanessa advised an associate to seek immediate care for a serious medical concern.

“That decision led them to the ER, and it turned out to be a medical emergency,” she said. “Knowing my guidance may have helped save their life is something I’ll never forget. It reinforces the impact I can have as a pharmacist.”

“You’ll face stressful moments, and patients may come in upset,” she said. “But when you lead with care and deliver premier service, you have the opportunity to turn those moments into positive experiences.”
