Job Spotlight: Manufacturing Supply Purchasing
If you’ve heard of Publix, chances are you’ve probably heard of our promote-from-within philosophy. At Publix, those who have experience working in our store or other support areas within the company have an advantage over those who do not. Not only are they familiar with Publix’s culture and values, they can also access jobs that aren’t posted for external job seekers. We love to give our current associates opportunities to grow and expand their careers within our company.
Today, we hear from a manager in Manufacturing Supply Purchasing. She is a perfect example of this philosophy. Through hard work and preparation, she moved to a leadership role at corporate just a few years after starting in retail.
Meet Maggie, Sourcing and Contracts Manager in Manufacturing Supply Purchasing.
Maggie grew up in Lake Alfred, Florida. Her family is the most important thing in her life, so she knew she wanted to choose a career path that kept her local. She took a job in retail while attending Florida Polytechnic University destined to participate in the summer internship the following year.
“I was determined to make myself stand out above the crowd. I worked hard to learn as much as I could about the store operations and about Publix as a whole. People knew me as the Publix girl because I was determined to use every project in college as an opportunity to develop my knowledge of Publix in preparation for the summer internship. As soon as the internships were posted I applied. Manufacturing Supply Purchasing was the first to call me for an interview and offer me a role. Saying yes has been the best choice of my career thus far, and as you can see the rest is history.”
After the internship ended, Maggie accepted a part-time purchasing analyst position for the dairy manufacturing team where she stayed for 10 months. Upon graduation, she was promoted to full-time associate as a support for the dairy and bakery manufacturing teams. Within the year, she was promoted to supply planner and 90 days later was promoted to her current role as the Sourcing and Contracts Manager.
“It’s unbelievable to think how much I have moved around in just under 3 years. The opportunities for growth are endless at Publix. I’m incredibly grateful for Publix and every opportunity I’ve had thus far.”
Maggie is incredibly motivated and determined to reach her goals. Throughout her career, she’s worked hard to get where she is today.
“I give my best in everything I do because I believe serving others is the greatest thing we can do, and I take pride in working for a company that shares that same value. I look forward to doing my part to ensure our mission of becoming the premier quality food retailer in the world.”
Maggie encourages others to apply to Publix just like Mr. George said “Publix is like a smorgasbord with opportunity spread out for you. Prepare yourself. The opportunities are up for grabs.”
