Description
The Senior Claims Consultant investigates, evaluates, disposes and settles the most complex general liability and fleet claims. The Sr. Consultant should be able to provide analysis and strategy while managing and negotiating moderate to high value litigated and non-litigated liability claims. The candidate interprets contractual indemnity agreements, thinks critically and knows how to apply them as well as understands how to access liability and damages to set proper financial reserves on claims. The incumbent oversees and directs Publix defense counsel on litigation strategies, presents files to the Risk Management Senior Leadership Team for review, and attends mediation and trials in the jurisdiction of suits.
Additional responsibilities:
- Reviews case information for initial litigation budgets and case evaluations from Defense Counsel
- Completes demand review and negotiation/settlement of claims
- Conducts initial investigations and reviews of information pertaining to individual claims
- Serves as a mentor and provides recommendations to the General Liability Department for non-represented claims
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline or in the alternative, a high school diploma with seven (7) years of claims experience
- Five (5) years of liability claims handling experience, including 3 years of litigation
- Ability to obtain Florida All Lines Adjuster License upon hire as well as reciprocal licenses for all the states that Publix operates in
- Knowledge of general insurance adjusting procedures, rules and ethics
- Knowledge of legal issues and burden of proof relating to GL and Auto negligence in all states Publix operates in
- Knowledge of legal issues and evidentiary standards relating to damages in all states Publix operates in
- Knowledge of risk transfer and notice obligations relating to same
- Knowledge of civil procedure in all states Publix operates in
- Knowledge of litigation management and defense tactics
- Knowledge of litigation defense strategy
- Knowledge of claims evaluation
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of customer base in the areas of operation
- Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
- High degree strategic thinking and independent judgment
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information
- Willingness to work weekends, and/or holidays
- Willingness to travel including overnight
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
- Seven (7) or more years of liability claims handling experience including 4 years of litigation
- Knowledge of Publix’s policies, procedures, and corporate structure
- CCLA, SCLA, CPCU or ARM certifications
- Actively holds Florida All Lines Adjuster’s License
or Paralegal Certification - Fluent in second language, preferably Spanish

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
