Description
The purpose of this position is to supervise a team of General Liability Specialists (Specialist I & II), handling both customer and attorney-represented non-litigated claims. This position is responsible for monitoring liability claims (both customer and attorney-represented non-litigated), including investigation, analysis, negotiations, and settlements.
The supervisor may be responsible for high touch involvement and oversight of claims which may include personally adjusting sensitive, complex or high exposure customer liability claims, including investigation, analysis, negotiations and settlement.
The Supervisor is involved in interviewing and making recommendations for hiring decisions, as well as managing performance of current associates.

Responsibilities include:
- Supervising the overall handling of customer and attorney represented non-litigated claims including “high touch” managing, involvement and oversight of complex or sensitive claims
- Supervising and leading a team of Specialists I & II, VRTs, VRT Team Leads on a daily basis
- Participating in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities through individual improvement activities, Quality Improvement Processes (QIPs) and Project Teams, and claims related meetings
- Overseeing, managing, monitoring, and in some instances acting as the primary adjuster, in specific types of general liability claims and claims handling activities such as complex or high exposure claims, security related claims, vendor involved claims, product related claims, food safety claims, pharmacy claims, claims involving fleet vehicles, etc
- Responding to telephone calls and written correspondence received by upper-level Publix management (CEO, President, Vice Presidents and Board of Directors) regarding liability claims
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline or in the alternative, a high school diploma with 7 years of claims experience
- 5 years of liability claims handling experience
- Ability to obtain Florida All Lines Adjuster License upon hire as well as reciprocal licenses for all the states that Publix operates in
- Superior knowledge of general insurance adjusting procedures, rules and ethics
- Superior knowledge of legal issues and burden of proof relating to GL and Auto negligence in all states Publix operates in
- Superior knowledge of legal issues and evidentiary standards relating to damages in all states Publix operates in
- Superior knowledge of risk transfer and notice obligations relating to same
- Superior knowledge of civil procedure in all states Publix operates in
- Superior knowledge of litigation management and defense tactics
- Knowledge of General Liability claims administration practices and processes including the claims system
- The ability and willingness to demonstrate eagerness, enthusiasm, optimism, and passion when working

- Availability to take Day trips/local travel, overnight trips and extended trips up to 1 week or longer
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, extended hours and to be on call 24/7
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 years of attorney represented liability claims handling experience with prior supervisory experience; prior litigation experience
- CCLA, SCLA, CPCU or ARM designation
- Actively holds Florida All Lines Adjuster’s License
- Fluent in a second language, preferably Spanish
- Knowledge of Publix HR policies and practices
- Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of Risk Management Claims System and Medicare Reporting System

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
