Description

The main function of this position is to inspect and convert large press rolls of flexographic (Flexo) web printed and non-printed material into smaller, end-use specific roll sizes. This requires the set-up and complete operation of three different types of web finishing equipment (rewinds): two (2) ABG 21” converter/rewinders; two (2) 17” ABG rewinds, and two (2) ABG four spindle turret rewinds.

A Printing Services Flexo Rewind Operator typically …

• Responsible for the accurate reading and comprehension of written job specifications. Job specifications provide the production details of each job/finished product.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient make-ready (set up) and complete operation of the four different types of rewinds.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient operator maintenance and cleanliness of the four different types of rewinds.
• Responsible for the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of production time and materials, via shop-floor data collection terminals.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or the equivalent
• Math and measurement knowledge
• Physical abilities, including: the lifting of up to 70 pounds, extended walking/standing (up to 14 hours/day), bending, and squatting
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Adaptability and versatility (change) skills
• Willingness and the ability to work variable work schedules (sometimes with short notice) when and as required by the work load, which may include weekend and/or holiday hours

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate of Science in graphic arts/printing
• Two years of flexographic/web finishing equipment operation
• Graphics arts college and/or trade school certification(s)
• Knowledge of general Publix and Printing Services’ policies and procedures
• Comprehensive finishing knowledge with an overall understanding of both press and shipping processes
• Understanding quality control methodologies, processes, tools, and measurements
• Understanding the various supported and un-supported web printing substrates
• Specific and advanced knowledge for the four spindle turret rewind and roll to roll butt splicer set-up, operation, and maintenance
• Specific and advanced knowledge for the five spindle turret rewind and roll to roll butt splicer set-up, operation, and maintenance
• Specific and advanced knowledge of two different types of RotoFlex rewinds (four machines) set-up, operation, and maintenance
• Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Shop Floor Data Collection
• Knowledge of Publix and Printing Services job and code numbering systems
• High degree of mechanical skills, combined with the abilities required to operate highly complex flexographic finishing equipment
• High degree of diagnostic, performance, and problem solving skills and experience

Year End Bonus

To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November.
