Meet Aissata.

Aissata, regional director

When Aissata began her Publix career in 1998 as a bagger, she had just arrived in the United States from France. Today, nearly three decades later, she serves as a regional director for Publix’s Atlanta division—overseeing multiple stores with thousands of associates and embodying the spirit of leadership and perseverance that defines the company’s culture.

“My role as a regional director is first and foremost to ensure that I’m leading and managing all retail operations within my region. It’s about operational excellence and fostering a culture that aligns with Publix’s core values.”

Her days are rarely the same—filled with store visits, collaborating with district managers, and connecting with associates across the region. “The most rewarding part of my job is being in the stores, interacting with our people, recognizing their contributions, and ensuring they feel valued.”

For Aissata, leadership is deeply personal. “You can’t care unless you connect with people. But you can’t connect with people unless you care for them. When associates feel valued and empowered, they go the extra mile—for you and for Publix.”

Aissata’s story is a testament to what hard work and authenticity can achieve. Starting as a part-time bagger, she advanced through roles including customer service manager, assistant store manager, store manager, district manager, and now regional director—all within the same company. “Publix is my first and only job,” she says proudly. “I didn’t plan to make it my career, but it became my home.”

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges. Moving to a new country, learning a new language, and navigating leadership in a large organization took resilience. “I meet associates who are hesitant to pursue management because of their accent. I always share my story. I tell them—don’t let that stop you. Your identity is your strength.”

Aissata reflects on the importance of representation: “At this point in my career, I don’t have much to prove. My goal is to be a beacon of hope for women—to show that they, too, can do this.”

Among the female leaders who inspired her is Marcy, now Publix’s vice president of associate experience. “Marcy carried herself with grace, professionalism, and class. She made me want to be a leader who uplifts others.”

Outside of work, Aissata enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures, and connecting with people around the world—passions that mirror her love for connecting with associates. She also values time with her family, particularly her father, whom she calls her greatest role model. “He taught me that humility isn’t thinking less of yourself—it’s thinking less about yourself.”

As a leader, Aissata hopes her legacy will be defined by integrity, mentorship, and impact. “I want to be remembered as someone who developed future leaders and left every store, every region, and this company better than I found it.”

With her passion for people, her resilience, and her unwavering belief in the Publix mission, Aissata continues to inspire—proving that with hard work and heart, every challenge is an opportunity to lead.
