Meet Oscar, a Publix truck driver of 30 years.

Oscar’s journey with Publix began 37 and a half years ago as a part-time stock clerk in the Grocery department. His dedication and passion for the company led him to the Produce department at Store #166 in North Miami Beach. In 1987, Oscar transitioned to the Miami Distribution Center as a rail dock associate, quickly advancing to a haul-in rider.

Oscar’s career took a significant turn when he joined the newly opened Boynton Beach Distribution Center. Over the years, he held various roles, including selector, loader, and forklift operator, before finding his true calling as a Publix truck driver and driver coach. His driving shift typically starts at 1:30 a.m., and he covers routes that often take him north of the warehouse, reaching as far as Sebastian, Florida.

As a driver coach and trainer, Oscar takes immense pride in sharing his knowledge and passion for safety with new drivers, and it gives him a sense of responsibility to know that Publix employees are not just workers, but owners. One of his proudest achievements is reaching the 2 Million Safe Miles Driving Award, a testament to his dedication to safety and excellence on the road.

Oscar’s favorite aspect of working for Publix is the genuine care the company shows for its associates. This care inspires him to give his best every day, knowing that the management team is always supportive and ready to address any challenges. For Oscar, being a truck driver at Publix is not just a job, but a rewarding career that values safety, teamwork, and associate well-being.

As we celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week during the second week of September, Oscar’s contributions and dedication are recognized and celebrated, highlighting the vital role he and his fellow drivers play in keeping Publix running smoothly.
