As a retail safety specialist, Tyrone promotes a safe shopping and work environment within our stores. His goal is to reduce incidents and encourage a strong safety culture by helping store managers identify possible risk factors and develop action plans for the future.

On a typical day, Tyrone visits stores and verifies that government regulations and company safety policies are being followed. He also tracks incidents, analyzes trends, and makes data-driven recommendations, aided by his strong background in statistics and research methods from his time spent studying criminal justice in college. Some personal traits and skills that he believes are necessary for his role include the ability to make connections and influence others, adeptness at problem solving, attention to detail, and adaptability.

Tyrone’s Publix journey began in 2009. Before stepping into his current role, he worked as a loss prevention officer. Prior to that, he was a retail associate in the Customer Service and Deli departments. His time in retail gave him valuable firsthand experience, which he uses in his current role. He sees the retail environment from the associates’ perspective, understanding their day-to-day responsibilities and the safety opportunities they face. When he reflects on an incident, he considers not only the facts, but also which thought processes might have contributed, helping him develop actionable and achievable solutions.

Tyrone’s studies and work experience aren’t the only factors that have shaped his success.  “I would not be where I am today without the help of others,” he says. “Along the way, I have had the support, encouragement, and guidance of many great people. I have been fortunate to have an amazing supervisor and incredible colleagues throughout my time at Publix. I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has been part of my journey. Your support has meant the world to me.”

Regarding Publix culture, Tyrone says, “It is a family atmosphere. We support each other and celebrate wins together. There is a strong sense of teamwork and respect, where everyone’s contributions matter.” In fact, the people are what he likes best about the company. He describes his fellow associates as approachable, creative, attentive, and excellent communicators.

Tyrone is a dad of two, and when he’s not on the job, he enjoys working out and playing basketball. His personal philosophy is, “If you work hard, the results you are looking for will eventually come.”
