Description
The Water Programs Manager will lead and manage the execution of regulatory water compliance focused on environmental compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to Environmental Protection. This position also directly manages all company-controlled stormwater maintenance and repairs. The impact this position has on Publix is to help Publix achieve significant operation and maintenance performance and savings by internalizing certain programs and/or projects for which Publix is responsible for, and which carry specific environmental requirements. In addition, this program is responsible for improving efficiency, leveraging resources, and lowering overall/long-term compliance and operational risks.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manages water regulatory (e.g., surface waters, wastewater, groundwater, wetlands, conservation areas, water use, and operational, NPDES, erosion control and operational stormwater) companywide programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and rules as well as ensuring operational functionality.
- Evaluates the need for company-wide and specific projects and championing them in response to federal, state and/or local regulatory changes or significant operational changes affecting environmental water programs.
- Acts as the Environmental Compliance Department SME for water programs and supporting other department projects, as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or Occupational Health & Safety field, or equivalent experience
- 2 years of experience managing projects and/or programs related to environmental management systems
- Must be at least 20 years old with a valid driver’s license and authorization to drive a company vehicle
- Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations impacting Publix
- Ability to develop and maintain professional, trusting, positive, and productive working relationships with associates, managers, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to see and understand the bigger picture
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, analyze, and identify system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint
- Computer skills in SharePoint
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in either Business Administration or Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry or any analytical field
- 5 years of experience managing projects and/or programs related to water management systems, including stormwater systems
- Stormwater Operator – Levels 1 & 2 Certifications
- Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector Certification
- Knowledge of Publix’s organizational structure, leadership and operations
- Knowledge and understanding of Publix Environmental Service’s responsibilities and programs
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint
Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
