Description

  • Assisting the Transportation Operations management team in directing the day-to-day activities associated with the planning and execution of our transportation strategy
  • Efficiently executing our outbound delivery and backhaul pick up plan through the optimal assignment of our transportation orders (trips) to our Publix truck drivers in a manner that meets our high service level commitment to our stores
  • Identifying daily staffing needs
  • Dynamically assigning labor and equipment to our daily workload
  • Maximizing on time delivery performance
  • Minimizing operational costs
  • Balancing driver’s workdays
  • Ensuring compliance to all federal and state transportation hours of service (HOS) regulations
  • Making the necessary adjustments to the plan in response to fluctuations in traffic conditions, weather, labor, and workload including unplanned requests from warehousing, manufacturing, and retail
  • Directly interacting with truck drivers, Transportation Operations management, fleet safety, corporate transportation, warehousing, manufacturing and return center associates, serves as a liaison with Warehousing, Manufacturing, and Retail and requires expertise in store locations, our Activity Based Pay system for truck drivers (DCP), our Transportation Driver Performance System (TDPS), our On Board Computer system (OBC), our Publix Transportation operations policies and procedures as well as all transportation related State and Federal regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Be at least 20 years old
  • Have a valid driver’s license and authorization to drive a company vehicle (on or before his or her start date in the position)
  • Have at least one year of experience working in distribution, transportation, or an analytical field
  • Be currently employed as a Publix Distribution associate or have one-year supervisory experience in Distribution or equivalent environment
  • Be able to work nights
  • Have knowledge of software, systems, and applications used in the Transportation Operations
  • Have knowledge of driver activities, functions, and processes
  • Have knowledge of setting up operations schedules
  • Have knowledge of Federal DOT regulations
  • Have knowledge of United States geography
  • Have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Have knowledge of Publix Transportation environment and operations
  • Have knowledge of warehouse shipping operations and impact on outbound transportation
  • Willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and do whatever it takes in the event of a disaster (e.g., hurricane)
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Orlando Distribution associate
  • Have an Associate’s Degree in Business or Transportation related field
  • Have a minimum of two years of experience in/or knowledge of transportation operations and
  • Have more than two years of supervisory experience in a transportation equivalent environment

Year End Bonus

To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November.
In the first year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to 15 hours of pay, and in the second year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to one week’s pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check.
In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to two weeks’ pay.
