Join the Publix Technology Team as a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the technical design and delivery of highly complex solutions under general guidance. You will translate business needs into maintainable technical designs, develop and test complex programs, perform peer code reviews, support production systems, and guide other engineers through technical tasks and problem resolution. The work may include new implementations, replacement or modernization of existing solutions, platform enhancements, commercial or SaaS configurations, and integrations between enterprise systems.
The ideal candidate brings strong enterprise software development experience, sound technical judgment, and the ability to lead complex engineering work while remaining actively involved in design, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support. This role is well suited for an engineer who can independently solve difficult technical problems, communicate effectively with both technical and business partners, and help improve engineering practices across the team.
Location: Hybrid (Lakeland, FL): To support our hybrid work model, candidates must reside, or be willing to relocate, within a commutable distance of Lakeland, FL.

Your impact:
- Lead the technical design, development, testing, implementation, and support of complex, enterprise-scale technology solutions with minimal guidance
- Provide technical leadership and guidance across multiple teams and platforms, ensuring alignment with architectural standards, security policies, and compliance requirements
- Serve as the technical expert for assigned systems, providing guidance and resolution for highly complex technical issues
- Translate complex business requirements into scalable, reliable, and maintainable technical solutions
- Lead and participate in technical design reviews, peer code reviews, and architecture discussions to ensure solution quality and consistency
- Provide technical input into solution scope, estimates, dependencies, and risk considerations
- Ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, usability, scalability, and total cost of ownership expectations
- Develop and maintain implementation plans, technical documentation, and operational runbooks
- Partner with Business Systems Analysts, Product Owners, QA Analysts, and stakeholders to define acceptance criteria and support user acceptance testing
- Guide and mentor software engineers through technical challenges, design decisions, and engineering best practices
- Diagnose and resolve complex system issues by identifying root causes and determining appropriate remediation and escalation paths
- Support after-hours implementations and provide on-call support for critical systems as required
- Advocate for continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence across supported platforms

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related analytical discipline, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, implementing, and supporting enterprise technology solutions
- 2+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using C# (.NET), Razor Pages, Telerik/Kendo controls, and modern UI frameworks
- 2+ years of experience with SQL Server, data modeling, and enterprise data management
- 2+ years of experience designing and implementing scalable application architectures, including microservices, REST APIs, and service-oriented solutions
- 2+ years of experience developing automated unit and integration testing solutions and applying secure development practices
- 2+ years of experience supporting production systems, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and participating in operational support activities
- Advanced knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and modern software engineering practices
- Strong understanding of application performance, scalability, resiliency, availability, and maintainability in enterprise environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills, including the ability to guide software engineers and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering experience in a large, distributed enterprise environment
- Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures and messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka or equivalent technologies)
- Experience with cloud platforms and services, including cloud databases, messaging, integration, and hosting technologies
- Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines, source control platforms, and modern DevOps practices
- Experience extending, configuring, or integrating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms within an enterprise technology ecosystem
- Experience with AI-enabled platforms and automation capabilities, including:
- AI-assisted automation and decision support
- Natural language processing (NLP) and text analytics
- AI-driven classification, routing, recommendation, or workflow automation capabilities
- Experience designing, configuring, or extending low-code and no-code platforms, including:
- Power Platform development (Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse)
- Integration of low-code solutions with enterprise applications, APIs, and data sources
Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
