Description

The Data and System Specialist provides expertise and technical skills for Asset Protection (AP) data sources, systems, strategic initiatives, projects, reporting, and technology. This includes gathering, compiling, and interpreting data, being a department subject matter expert (SME) on multiple data sets and processes; creating, designing, implementing and merging of integral internal analytic and assessment processes to streamline and optimize field consumption and execution, employing and managing multiple software system platforms and the use of technology to access these systems, being the system administrator for various systems, leading user acceptance teams, and training of (AP) personnel in a fast passed and ever changing work environment. This position is also responsible for representing Asset Protection on tiered cross-functional initiatives.
Asset Protection is instrumental in protecting Publix assets with a focus on loss prevention case management and audit tools, retail data, including digital payment data, as well as shrink management tools such as inventories, exception reporting, databases, audits, and shrink assessments to mitigate shrink and eliminate loss. The Data and System Specialist reports to the Manager of Asset Protection Analytics and works with other asset protection analytic and investigation associates.

  • Understanding, gathering, and compiling data from multiple sources, devising logical constructs among those data, and utilizing big-data platforms such as Alteryx to compute and communicate the results to field and management
  • Representing Asset Protection on tiered projects to include teams consisting of external resources such as Technology, BAR, Strategy Support, and third-party vendors in addition to other business units, as well as all levels of approving leadership to effectively design, implement and use technology within the AP department
  • Developing training related to data, systems, business processes, and technology to all levels within AP
  • Providing leadership and support of investigative analytics for point of sale (POS), Pharmacy, and inventory investigations, money services

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical discipline or at least 4 years of full-time relevant business experience
  • 2 years’ experience with any combination of the following:
    • Data analytics
    • Project leadership
    • System administration
  • Intermediate skill level:
    • Case management and audit software systems, MicroStrategy (MSTR) (Shrink, POS, Inventory), Retail data (P&L, DSD), exception based statistical reporting systems, Pharmacy RBU systems, DB2, Fin-DSS, Teradata, money services and credit card data, big-data solutions such as Alteryx
    • Database and analysis query tools to include SQL, VBA, MicroStrategy, and/or SAP_BI
    • System user acceptance testing (UAT), including the development of system test scripts, leading UAT teams and analyzing results using various software/data packages
  • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Access and Excel
  • Able to travel overnight, work extended hours, and/or weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical discipline
  • 3-5 years’ experience with any combination of the following:
    • Data analytics
    • Project leadership
    • System administration
    • System administration power user of Access, Excel, Word
    • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
    • Loss Prevention Qualified (LPQ) certification
    • Expert skill level:
      • Case management and audit software systems
      • Database and analysis query tools
      • Retail and corporate financial and account systems
      • Microsoft Access and Excel
      • System user acceptance testing (UAT)

Year End Bonus

As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
