Join the Publix Technology Team as a Lead Software Engineer supporting the Associate Experience business area. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable enterprise platforms and integrations. You will collaborate closely with Architecture, Product Owners, Business Systems Analysts, Security, and Quality teams to design, build, and support complex technology solutions across the organization.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will guide technical direction and execution for complex applications and integrations, from design through deployment and operational support. You will perform peer code reviews, lead technical problem resolution, and serve as a subject matter expert within the product portfolio. This role ensures solutions align with architectural standards, security requirements, and long-term maintainability objectives, while supporting new implementations, system modernizations, enhancements to existing platforms, and enterprise-wide integrations.

Your impact:
- Lead the technical design, development, testing, implementation, and support of complex, enterprise-scale technology solutions with minimal guidance
- Provide technical leadership and guidance across multiple teams and platforms, ensuring alignment with architectural standards, security policies, and compliance requirements
- Serve as the technical expert for assigned systems, providing guidance and resolution for highly complex technical issues
- Translate complex business requirements into scalable, reliable, and maintainable technical solutions
- Lead and participate in technical design reviews, peer code reviews, and architecture discussions to ensure solution quality and consistency
- Provide technical input into solution scope, estimates, dependencies, and risk considerations
- Ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, usability, scalability, and total cost of ownership expectations
- Develop and maintain implementation plans, technical documentation, and operational runbooks
- Partner with Business Systems Analysts, Product Owners, QA Analysts, and stakeholders to define acceptance criteria and support user acceptance testing
- Guide and mentor software engineers through technical challenges, design decisions, and engineering best practices
- Diagnose and resolve complex system issues by identifying root causes and determining appropriate remediation and escalation paths
- Support after-hours implementations and provide on-call support for critical systems as required
- Advocate for continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence across supported platforms

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related analytical field or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 5+ years of experience with SAP’s (ERP) system, specifically the Human Resource (HR) modules, with a focus on Time and Payroll
- 3+ years of experience with customized enhancements to the standard SAP HR Time Management and/or Payroll modules
- 5+ years of experience reading and understanding system requirements and design deliverables with a focus on Time and Payroll
- 5+ years of experience understanding software applications and translating business requirements into functional configuration requirements.
- 5+ years of experience with testing environments, test execution and following testing standards with a focus on Time and Payroll
- 5+ years of experience analyzing, researching, and reporting on SAP HR data, with a focus on Time and Payroll
- Understanding of relational database design and querying concepts
- Understanding of Software Development Lifecycles
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience analyzing complex business problems and delivering scalable enterprise technology solutions
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or another analytical discipline, or equivalent experience
- Expertise across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Strong experience developing and supporting enterprise applications using C# (.NET), Razor Pages, Telerik/Kendo controls, and modern UI frameworks
- Extensive experience with SQL Server and enterprise data management
- Deep understanding of design patterns and architectural frameworks, including microservices, REST APIs, and service-oriented architectures
- Proven experience integrating multiple systems using various interface patterns, including APIs, messaging, and file-based integrations
- Lead the design and development of enterprise applications using .NET 10, MVC, and modern backend/service patterns.
- Architect and implement microservices-based solutions with strong focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Drive engineering excellence using GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio 2026, and AI-assisted or “vibe coding” workflows where appropriate.
- Build, deploy, and support containerized workloads using Docker and Azure cloud services, including AKS.
- Partner with DevOps teams to establish and improve CI/CD pipelines, release processes, infrastructure automation, and operational readiness.
- Strong experience designing and implementing unit and integration testing strategies
- Strong understanding of performance optimization, scalability, resiliency, and operational support in enterprise environments
- Experience supporting production systems and participating in operational support activities
- Experience working within Agile and Scrum development environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills
- Experience mentoring and guiding software engineers while remaining hands-on in complex development efforts
- Ability to provide after-hours and on-call support for assigned system

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
