Since its launch in 2007, the Publix Summer Internship Program prepares a cohort of young professionals for a smorgasbord of opportunities in the workplace. This is achieved through relationship building, development of self-confidence, and insight into industry knowledge.

The 2026 Summer program dates are May 18th – July 24th at our company facilities in Lakeland, FL. Over these 10 weeks, interns will work 40 hours a week participating in impactful departmental projects that connect classroom learning to real-world corporate experience. Highlights include:

Position Overview
The Risk Management Claims Department is responsible for managing general liability and premises liability claims to protect the organization from financial and reputational risks. The team investigates incidents, evaluates exposure, and works with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and fair resolution of claims. Interns will gain hands-on experience in claim intake, documentation, analysis, and support processes, learning how risk mitigation strategies are applied in real-world scenarios.

What you’ll do

• Attend business unit and roundtable of case evaluation meetings
• Observe mediations and/or trials
• Evaluate statistical analysis of ad hoc projects and reporting
• Provide recommendations to improve process support

Required Qualifications

• Must be an actively enrolled student not graduating prior to the start of the Summer Internship Program in May; or
• If graduating from a bachelor’s degree program prior to the start of the internship, starting a graduate degree program in the upcoming summer or fall semester; or
• If graduating from a master’s degree program prior to the start of the internship, starting a graduate degree program in the upcoming summer or fall semester)
• Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in risk management/insurance or first year Law Student and be a current sophomore or above (rising junior or above as of the program start in Summer 2026) or a graduate student
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Ability to deal with confidential matters
• Must have a current driver’s license to be able to travel to various Publix buildings for meetings, as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Access and Power BI or another BI platform
• Basic knowledge of Python and Visual Basic of Applications (VBA)
• Interest focused in Litigation and/or Risk Management/Insurance
