The Publix Summer Internship Program prepares a cohort of young professionals for a smorgasbord of opportunity in the workplace through relationship building, development of self-confidence, and insight into industry knowledge.
Since the inception of the program in 2007, Publix empowers interns to share, lead, and implement their creative ideas, projects, and unique contributions towards our organization and the communities we serve.
Over the course of 10 weeks, interns are immersed in consequential department projects which allow them to apply academic concepts learned in the classroom to a real-world, corporate setting. The intern cohort participates in several exclusive events including meeting with Publix executives, volunteering in a local community service event, touring manufacturing and distribution facilities, and giving an end-of-summer presentation to Publix leaders. This summer, the program will occur from May 19 through July 25 at our company facilities in Lakeland, Florida. Interns are offered competitive pay and are generally expected to work onsite 40 hours per week, although this varies by department. Additionally, we partner with Florida Southern College to provide free housing for our out-of-town interns.

Position Overview
The Corporate Counsel department provides reporting, trend analysis, peer guidance and a practical playbook to help counsels succeed in their high stakes. During the first half of the internship, the intern will work in the Employment Law and Investigations department Conducts investigations for complaints that associates lodge internally (Discharge Reviews, Formal Complaints) and externally (Charges of Discrimination, Attorney Demand Letters, and Lawsuits). During each investigation, we consider the legal merits as well as compliance with Publix’s Mission Statement, which is dedicated to the dignity, value, and employment security of our associates. During the second half of the internship, the intern will work in other areas of Corporate Counsel.
What you’ll do
First half of the internship the intern will work in the Employment Law and Investigations department:
- Investigating and analyzing complaints from associates stemming from Publix’s internal processes, discharge resolution, and formal complaint procedure
- Drafting reports at the conclusion of investigations
- Representing Publix at unemployment compensation hearings
- Assisting in-house counsel, management, and Employment Law Investigators with various tasks
Second half of the internship the intern will work in various other areas of Corporate Counsel such as:
- Real Estate/Facilities Legal/Contracts
- Healthcare & Privacy
- Consumer Benefits Licensing (Regulatory & Compliance)
- Environmental and Sustainability
Required Qualifications
- Must be an actively enrolled student not graduating prior to the start of the Summer Internship Program in May
- Must be pursuing a must be pursuing a Juris Doctorate degree and completed 1L and entering 2L year
- Basic knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, Excel
- Strong written and analytical problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills to complete assignments in a timely manner
- High level of maturity, judgement, and tact
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to work long hours at times and travel when needed
