Description
- Facilitate effective educational, safety and skills training programs to improve the safety culture and accident rate within our Publix private fleet
- Serve as a regulatory technical safety expert for Publix Transportation and
- Respond to initial accident scenes, collecting information and assisting in the accident investigation of asserted or potential claims involving Publix vehicles and providing field support for our Publix Risk Management department
Required Qualifications
- Be at least 24 years old
- Have authorization to drive a company vehicle (before his or her start date in the position)
- Must have primary residence located within 100 miles of the work location
- Must have three years (full time) Truck Driving experience
- Be able to work a flexible schedule of 45 hours minimum per week that may include nights, weekends, and overnight travel. Be available 24/7 should the need arise
- Must resolve pending sanctions against the individual’s driver license that would result in suspension, revocation or cancelation prohibiting the individual from operating motor vehicles within 14 days of meeting with the paperwork processor
- Must not have more than three suspensions or other sanctions prohibiting the individual from operating motor vehicles within the previous three years
- Not have the following driving violations/offenses within the previous three years:
- Failure to report an accident
- Passing a stopped school bus
- Texting while driving
- Speeding in a school zone
- Excessive speed >15 mph over the limit
- Following too closely
- Failure to obey railroad crossing warnings or bypassing gate arms
- Using a vehicle to commit a felony, not involving a controlled substance
- Moving violations (2 or more)
- Chargeable accidents (2 or more)
- Not have one or more of the following driving violations/offenses within the previous seven years:
- Fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement
- Road rage
- Refusal to submit to testing
- DUI, DWI, operating under the influence or while intoxicated
- Reckless driving
- Negligent driving
- Street racing or racing on roadway
- Hit and run
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Vehicular assault
- Not have an unacceptable drug test result on a Publix or company-sponsored drug test within the previous three years
- Be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (within 2 weeks of his or her start date in the position)
- Complete training and obtain a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (within 6 weeks of his or her start date in the position, unless extended by the Director of Transportation and Maintenance)
- Pass the Motor Fleet Accident Investigation course
- Pass the Third Party Commercial Driver License Tester Course (where applicable)
- Have extensive knowledge of US Federal DOT FMCSA regulations
- Have knowledge of accident investigation analysis and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) techniques
- Have in-depth knowledge of Publix Transportation operations (dispatch and fleet maintenance)
- Have knowledge of our dispatch operations and driver compensation program
- Have knowledge or safety audit methodology and components
- Have effective oral and written communication skills
- Have leadership, interpersonal and investigative skills
- Be able to display professionalism, tact and direction
- Be able to develop action plans
- Have organizational and project management skills
- Have computer skills in applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
- Have negotiation, persuasion and mediation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (preferably in Safety and Health, Business Management or related field) or equivalent experience
- Have in-depth knowledge of Publix’s Transportation operation
- Have three years field experience in fleet Safety, DOT compliance and accident investigation
- Be a NATMI Certified Supervisor of Safety
- Be First Aid/Blood borne Pathogen certified

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
