Join the Publix Technology team supporting enterprise Electronic Data Exchange (EDI) solutions as a Software Engineer. In this role, you will design, develop, test, implement, and support software solutions that enable reliable EDI between Publix, business partners, vendors, and internal systems. You will work across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to analyze technical requirements, build and enhance application components, troubleshoot complex system issues, and support integrations that serve 1,400+ retail stores and more than 260,000 internal team members across eight states.
Location: Hybrid (Lakeland, FL): To support our hybrid work model, candidates must reside, or be willing to relocate, within a commutable distance of Lakeland, FL.

Your impact:
- Design, develop, test, implement, and support EDI maps, business processes, and integration components that enable electronic data exchange between Publix, vendors, business partners, and internal applications.
- Create and maintain EDI mapping specifications, transformation logic, trading partner configurations, communication setups, and related technical documentation.
- Configure and support EDI transactions, envelopes, certificates, communication protocols, schedules, routing rules, and partner-specific processing requirements.
- Support onboarding of new vendors and trading partners by analyzing requirements, configuring partner profiles, coordinating testing, validating file exchanges, and promoting approved changes to production.
- Analyze and troubleshoot EDI failures, including mapping errors, translation issues, missing or invalid data, communication failures, rejected transactions, and production processing exceptions.
- Monitor EDI transactions and system processes to ensure timely and accurate processing of inbound and outbound data exchanges across assigned applications and business processes.
- Collaborate with business areas, vendors, QA analysts, infrastructure teams, database teams, and application development teams to resolve issues and deliver reliable EDI solutions.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring EDI issues and implement corrective actions, process improvements, automation, or monitoring enhancements to reduce business disruption.
- Participate in the Software Development Lifecycle by preparing technical designs, developing code or configuration changes, supporting unit and integration testing, and coordinating implementation activities.
- Support production deployments, change management activities, validation steps, and post-implementation monitoring for EDI-related enhancements, fixes, and vendor onboarding changes.
- Maintain system knowledge for assigned EDI applications and serve as a technical contact for complex EDI incidents, service requests, and business support needs.
- Provide on-call or after-hours support as needed for critical EDI applications, production failures, and time-sensitive business processing issues.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related analytical field or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on software development or integration development experience supporting enterprise applications, interfaces, or data exchange platforms.
- 3+ years of hands-on EDI development experience designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting EDI maps, translation logic, business processes, and trading partner integrations.
- 3+ years of experience working with enterprise database management systems and writing or analyzing SQL queries to research data, validate transactions, and support issue resolution.
- Experience working with EDI transaction standards and formats, including X12 transaction sets, envelopes, acknowledgements, delimiters, validation rules, and partner-specific mapping requirements.
- Experience configuring and supporting EDI trading partner profiles, communication protocols, certificates, routing rules, schedules, and production processing workflows.
- Experience onboarding vendors or trading partners by gathering technical requirements, building maps or configurations, coordinating testing, validating file exchanges, resolving defects, and supporting production implementation.
- Strong troubleshooting experience resolving EDI failures, including mapping errors, translation failures, rejected transactions, missing or invalid data, communication issues, and production processing exceptions.
- Working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including technical design, development, unit testing, integration testing, change management, deployment, and post-implementation support.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with business areas, vendors, QA teams, infrastructure teams, database teams, and application development teams to deliver reliable EDI solutions.
- Provide on-call or after-hours support for assigned EDI applications, production failures, and time-sensitive business processing issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Sterling IBM B2B Integrator Solution, Eliassen Framework, IBM Db2
- Experience managing 3rd party vendor relationships.
- Knowledge of infrastructure and systems concepts.
- Experience working as a Scrum Master within an Agile Scrum framework and its application in product development and delivery.
- Experience utilizing Agile project management and code management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps or Jira)
- Positive and organized approach to work is essential.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Willing to work as an effective member of a team but capable of working independently to solve complex problems.
- Excellent decision-making and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work closely with management when required as well as the ability to work independently.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.

Year End Bonus
To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November. In the first year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to 15 hours of pay, and in the second year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to one week’s pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check. In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to two weeks’ pay.
