As an Assistant Construction Manager, you’ll bring your expertise in planning, time management, and problem solving to oversee a variety of retail construction projects. Success in this role requires adaptability, independence, and a sharp eye for detail, along with strong communication and negotiation skills to collaborate effectively with contractors, vendors, and internal teams. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee retail construction projects from planning through completion, including remodels, liquor stores, and special initiatives. This involves conducting site visits to monitor progress, ensuring compliance with Publix standards, and resolving design issues in collaboration with internal and external teams.
- Assist the Retail Construction Manager in overseeing large-scale and prototypical new store and shopping center developments by monitoring construction quality and schedules, and ensuring timely communication of project status to stakeholders
- Oversee contractor proposals, contracts, change orders, project schedules, and payment approvals to ensure retail construction projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related course of study or equivalent level of documented construction experience or equivalent experience (if applicable)
- Three years’ experience in construction management as a project manager, superintendent, or retail development manager
- Knowledge of:
- Construction project management
- OSHA regulations
- Municipal permitting process
- Various construction methods and materials related to commercial construction
- Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word
- Basic skill level in Microsoft Excel
- Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require
- Availability to be on call 24/7 as business needs require
- Willingness to travel overnight occasionally as business needs require
- A valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering, or equivalent level of documented construction experience
- 5 years’ experience in construction management as a project manager, superintendent, or retail development manager
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- State Certified Contractors License, Registered Professional Engineer, or equivalent
- Experience with Bluebeam
- Experience with Landmark
- Knowledge of construction laws and lien laws

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
