Assistant Resident Chef - Winter Park

An Assistant Resident Chef is responsible for assisting the Resident Chef with the management functions associated with the Aprons programs including the Cooking School, Simple Meals, Event Planning, and Catering (where available). This includes total operation and customer satisfaction of all Aprons programs in the absence of the Resident Chef.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • works with the Resident Chef, Store Manager, and Meals RBU to set goals for the Cooking School, Simple Meals, Event Planning, and Catering, review results, and improve operations
  • assists with food and housewares ordering (through coordination with department managers), ensures quality of inventory and product, and drives sales through cross merchandising for local and seasonal demands for Cooking School, Simple Meals, Event Planning, and Catering
  • assists with managing and maintaining the local Cooking School class calendar, including acting as a developer of class curriculum and recipes, and creation of class documentation
  • teaches Cooking School classes
  • schedules and participates in business calls and other outside activities and community events required to promote Cooking School, Simple Meals, Event Planning, and Catering, including promoting private classes as well as recruiting new students
  • supervises, assists with evaluations, scheduling, and training of Aprons associates (including Cooking Schools, Simple Meals, Event Planning, and Catering)
  • assists Resident Chef by serving as celebrity chef/guest chef contact and media liaison and helps coordinate guest visits
  • assists with pursuing media and public relations opportunities to promote the Aprons programs and supports media engagements by making appearances on local television and radio segments and providing content for news paper and magazine articles
  • assists with cultivating relationships in the community that drives class offerings and other Aprons business opportunities
  • assists in managing Catering events and Cooking School class preparation, including overseeing the operation of equipment and cutting tools and all food preparation
  • assists in coordinating Event Planning and Catering deliveries
  • assists customers regarding recipe and food related questions, through phone calls, e-mails and face-to-face conversations
  • consults with customers regarding catering needs such as menu selection, pricing, etc.
  • assists with managing enrollment activities in Cooking School computer system and helping manage online and in-store payment
  • travels to support other Cooking School locations and assist in the training and development of new associates
  • assists in planning and coordinating the execution and accounting of offsite functions and private parties
  • researches and utilizes current culinary trends
  • reinforces sanitation, security and safety guidelines
  • delivers premier customer service and displays an enthusiasm for food and cooking and
  • assists in other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • must be at least 21 years of age
  • must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and
  • three months experience as a Publix Apron’s Sous Chef or must be a culinary graduate with a certificate of completion from an American Culinary Federation sponsored apprentice program or must have equivalent culinary knowledge through work experience
  • not have received an unacceptable result on a company-sponsored drug test within the last year
  • have met the Criminal Background Check (CBC) requirements within the last year and
  • meet the rehire eligibility criteria, if previously employed at Publix
  • three years experience in a culinary field
  • experience teaching culinary classes
  • ability to read, write and do simple math problems, and understand profit and loss statements
  • ability to define problems, plan work, use logic, and draw conclusions
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • basic computer skills
  • a willingness to travel (by car or air) with potential overnight stays.

Work Environment: See additional infiormation Year End Bonus: To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in December. In the first year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to 15 hours of pay, and in the second year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to one week’s pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check. In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to two weeks’ pay.
Address Line: 440 N Orlando Ave City: Winter Park, FL Additional Information: An Assistant Resident Chef’s duties are primarily performed in the Cooking School and offsite at catered events, and involve accepting responsibility for leading others. Work includes walking, standing for an extended period of time, lifting, moving and carrying product, eye/hand coordination, repetitive arm and hand movements, using sharp knives and cooking equipment, and interacting with store/department management, other associates, and customers. It also includes frequent interaction with other culinary professionals in the community.
