The Corporate Legal department at Publix provides a wide variety of services including responding to specific legal matters and developing compliance programs, policies, and guidelines. The department provides legal services across the entire company in areas such as real estate, food safety, pharmacy, environmental, occupational health and safety, e-commerce, energy, tax, trademarks, litigation management, and regulatory compliance.

The Sr Attorney will provide high-level counsel and can negotiate and advocate for Publix through exceptional writing, listening, and communication skills. Ideal candidates will have high levels of applied judgement and interpersonal skills to work productively when faced with challenging work situations and time pressures.

This is an office-based position located at Publix’s Lakeland corporate office.

What you’ll do
  • manage all facets of the contract creation, review, and negotiation process
  • advise and train internal departments on contractual issues
  • identify and assess legal risks arising from proposed contractual requirements
  • review customer facing digital and marketing content
  • manage sweepstakes and contest matter
  • manage intellectual property issues (trademark and patent)
  • provide support for general legal issues such as drafting and reviewing internal policies and procedures, vendor problems, miscellaneous civil litigation, Publix initiatives/projects, legal research and analysis, and regulatory matters


Required Qualifications
  • Law School degree
  • at least 5 years of practice experience in the areas of contract creation, review and negotiation; and a member of a state Bar
  • knowledge of Publix’s business, policies, and procedures
  • knowledge of standard and alternative contractual language
  • knowledge of potential legal and business risks
  • knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to Publix’s industry
  • computer skills using Microsoft products as well as several database programs
  • ability to lead and manage resources and coordinate the efforts of others
Preferred Qualifications
  • eight (8) or more years of practice experience
  • admitted to the Florida Bar, or other bar association, in one or more of Publix’s operating states
  • texting and email compliance experience (i.e. TCPA, CAN SPAM, etc.)
  • sweepstakes and contest experience
  • trademark and patent experience
  • marketing content review experience
  • technology transaction experience
Potential Annual Pay with Bonus 153,790 - 230,620 Additional Required Qualifications
Minimum Base Pay 12,055.00 Maximum Base Pay 18,075.00 Additional Preferred Qualifications
Frequency of Pay Monthly Hours of Work Minimum 45 hours per week Travel Frequency 10% Year End Bonus As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
