If so, we are seeking a proven leader to create a clear vision for enterprise GIS deployment to support our organizational goals. The ideal candidate will possess a broad knowledge of GIS applications, capabilities, and system requirements. He or she will be responsible for overseeing the team that develops GIS systems as well as another team that is responsible for location analytics. This individual is responsible for the overall management of the diverse staff of analysts, developers, and managers within this business function.

The purpose of this position is to develop and oversee the implementation of a Location Analytics & GIS strategy in alignment with the overall Marketing Analytics vision and strategy. This position has specific responsibility for spatial analytics, geographic enrichment of business data and related data visualization techniques to garner insights and provide recommendations most often related to potential store locations, emerging/alternative business locations, product placement, and a wide variety of varying requests surrounding human geography. This team manages and maintains hundreds of differing geospatial datasets including demographics (population, race/ethnicity, income, etc.), consumer and customer data and competitor locations, enabling spatial analyses and allowing the team to compare actual customer behavior/patterns to other data sources (surveys, cell phone data, publications, internal analyses, etc.). This information is shared throughout the organization and allows other business areas to perform regression/AB Testing (APT, Alteryx Applications, Automated processes).

As the organization’s foremost expert concerning Location Analytics & GIS, this position proactively advocates viewpoints in support of decisions for cross-functional projects and the overall strategy of Publix and the Marketing department. Additionally, this position is responsible for management of Location Analytics & GIS Team associates, budget and oversight of all supplier relationships necessary to support the Location Analytics & GIS strategy.
  • Responsible for defining the Location Analytics & GIS strategy in alignment with the overall Marketing Analytics vision and strategy to support an Omni-Channel business approach which drives sales, profitably influences customer behavior and influences a collection of decision-making processes
  • Responsible for implementation of the Location Analytics & GIS strategy, including the data assets, analytical methods and software tools necessary to support customer and business needs.
  • Responsible for serving as the organization’s foremost expert concerning Location Analytics & GIS to proactively advocate viewpoints associated with Location Analytics & GIS and provide perspective in support of decisions for business plan initiatives, cross-functional projects, and the overall strategy of Publix and the Marketing department.
  • Responsible for fiscal management of Location Analytics & GIS budget allocation
  • Responsible for comprehensive oversight of all supplier relationships necessary to support the Location Analytics & GIS strategy.
  • Responsible for leading, managing and developing Location Analytics & GIS associates.
  • Responsible for dedicating time to marketing innovation and quality improvement.
  • Responsible for managing special Marketing related assignments.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering or another analytical discipline from an accredited college or university or its equivalent.
  • 7 years of GIS, analytics, computer science, or similar analytics field work-related experience
  • 1 year indirect management experience
  • Management skills
  • Expert knowledge of Location Analytics & GIS strategies, tools and data sets
  • Ability to coach others in developing research-based recommendations
  • Ability to critique and question assumptions and beliefs

  • Ability to apply the appropriate advanced mathematics and statistics methods to large data sets, including, but not limited to, regression models (linear, logistic, Bayesian, stepwise, etc.), decision trees, correlation analysis, random forest models, cluster analysis, k-means, sum of squares and time series analysis
  • Ability to develop advanced data algorithms
  • Database architecture skills
  • Knowledge of the secondary research process and methods
  • Design thinking and rapid prototyping techniques
  • Ability to maintain extremely confidential information
  • Expert skills in ArcGIS
  • Basic knowledge of Alteryx and Alteryx Server or similar Business Intelligence (BI) tools
  • Basic knowledge of Big Data and cloud-based tools Intermediate knowledge of different coding methods such as SQL Code, R Studio, R Coding Language, Python or ability to perform similar functions within similar statistical tools such as SPSS
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Willingness to travel up to one week at a time with overnight stays.
  • Ability to work a variable work schedule as needed including nights, holidays, weekends, and extended hours to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in Geographic Information Systems, MBA, or Masters in Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering or another analytical discipline
  • 10 or more years of GIS, analytics, or computer science work-related experience
  • 3 years indirect management experience.
  • Experience with distributed big data tools, utilizing technologies such as MapReduce
  • Data Science Certificate or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) certification
  • Expert skills in ArcGIS Online
  • Expert knowledge of Alteryx and Alteryx Server or similar Business Intelligence (BI) tools
  • Advanced knowledge of Big Data and cloud-based tools such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, Presto or Hadoop
  • Basic Python, SharePoint Development and Scarborough Prime Lingo
  • Intermediate knowledge of Tableau or Microstrategy Desktop or similar data visualization tool
  • Basic knowledge of APT Test and Learn, Marketbasket Analyzer, and Benchmarker
  • Expert Excel skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Publix business systems, including: PIMS, PPMS, EDW.
  • Advanced knowledge of Marketing Systems: ECMS, MCMS, Marketing Analytics DB (MADb) SQL Server, Geospatial Data Sources, Acxiom InfoBase, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce DMP DMP, Datorama, Infor MRM/MA Solution
Potential Annual Pay with Bonus Your talent, skills and experience will be rewarded with a competitive compensation package. Frequency of Pay Monthly Hours of Work Minimum 45 hours per week. Travel Frequency 10% Year End Bonus As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
