Divisional Retail Safety Supervisor-Charlotte

The Retail Safety Supervisor leads Retail Divisional safety efforts and assists in the reduction in frequency of Workers’ Compensation and General Liability incidents in retail locations. The incumbent ensures compliance to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations in Publix stores which includes conducting and/or directing investigations into inquiries, complaints, claims or incidents that may involve regulatory agencies, customers, associates, or others. This position must possess excellent knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations in an effort to supervise and support the Retail Safety Specialists. The Retail Safety Supervisor reports directly to the Safety Manager – Retail.

Additional Responsibilities Include:
  • directs and conducts assessments that expose potential hazards and facilitates corrective actions
  • serves as the Publix representative during OSHA inspections
  • develops and implements programs that reduce the risk of associate and/or customer incidents
  • provides briefings to retail leadership revealing the financial impacts of Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, trends and areas of opportunity
  • collaborates with Retail leadership and business areas to ensure the department specific safety training and Reference and Procedure (R&P) guides adequately explain the proper, safe equipment operation and maintenance
  • provides guidance, consultation and approval on matters related to Safety responsibilities in the absence or in support of the Safety Manager – Retail.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Bachelor of Arts Degree in any field of study or equivalent work experience (5 years)
  • at least three (3) years of experience as a Publix Retail Safety Specialist or comparable position, or a member of management with direct reports
  • knowledge of interpreting and applying safety standards
  • knowledge of conducting assessments and assessment processes; report writing, corrective action plans, etc.
  • knowledge of injury investigation analysis techniques
  • knowledge of retail and/or grocery store environments and processes
  • basic knowledge of Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • experience utilizing computer audit systems/programs
  • ability to work with little or no supervision on a day-to-day basis
  • time management, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • possess analytical skill set, including data manipulation and analysis
  • investigative skills to identify hazards and remediation actions
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • ability to maintain composure under pressure
  • ability to recognize behaviors or conditions that may lead to an injury
  • possess a valid driver’s license and authorization to drive a company vehicle (on or before his or her start date in the position).
  • willingness to work a minimum of 45 hours per week with flexibility work nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate
  • willingness to travel with some overnight stay
  • willingness to travel via airplane as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering or a related field of study
  • five (5) or more years of safety management experience with multi-location responsibility
  • knowledge of Publix Retail Operations and business unit structures and responsibility
  • knowledge of the Publix Prevention Plus Team structure and methodology
  • professional certification to include Certified Safety Professional CSP or other industry recognized certifications
  • multilingual
Potential Annual Pay with Bonus 73,840 - 111,345 Minimum Base Pay $5,680 Maximum Base Pay $8,565 Frequency of Pay Monthly Hours of Work Minimum 45 hours per week. Year End Bonus One month’s pay (pro-rated in the first year) if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check.
