Look no further, we are seeking a part-time Associate Software Engineer to join our Industrial Operations team! The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the design, development, delivery and support of moderately complex Industrial Operations IT (Information Technology) solutions. This position assures that IT solutions meet the needs of the business operations, meet regulatory requirements, adhere to Information Systems (I/S) and Industrial Operations IT standards, and do not negatively impact operations. Your efforts will directly contribute to the strategic and tactical decision-making processes within Industrial Operations, aligning with Publix’s commitment to sustainability and excellence.
Responsibilities include:

  • Supports assigned IT solutions for all Industrial Operations’ departments
  • Designs, develops, tests, documents, optimizes and implements new Industrial Operations IT solutions
  • Designs and implements improvements to existing Industrial Operations IT solutions
  • Troubleshoots problems with production Industrial Operations IT systems
  • Identifies upgrades to Industrial Operations IT solutions and associated process enhancements to improve efficiency, increase capacity, improve associate and food safety, support sustainability and/or reduce labor
  • Ensures corporate Publix Technology and Industrial Operations standards are adhered to
  • Acquires and maintains a thorough understanding of assigned Industrial Operations IT systems and business processes
  • Designs, develops, maintains, documents and supports advanced MS Access databases and applications, and advanced Excel spreadsheets with complex VBA code logic
  • Researches and identifies data sources for reporting to support Industrial Operations’ decision makin
  • Develops and maintains reporting to support Industrial Operations’ tactical and strategic decision making
  • Configures, tests, installs and supports Industrial Operations specific software and hardware at multiple locations
  • Implements and supports approved commercial off the shelf software specific to Industrial Operation
  • Develops and facilitates training on new and existing Industrial Operations IT systems for operations and support associates, and
  • Participates on special teams and projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a junior level or higher for a degree in Computer Science or in an analytical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • One year of developing software on various platforms
  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC), programming concepts and principles
  • Knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language)
  • Knowledge of personal computer, printer, and network configuration, terminology and architecture
  • Be willing and available to occasionally work a flexible schedule including occasionally working on nights, weekends and holidays to meet the Industrial Operations business needs
  • Be willing and available to dedicate up to 5% of time to overnight and/or extended duration travel which may include traveling by air

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in an analytical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • One year of IT support experience
  • One year of experience developing software in MS Access and Visual Basic for Applications
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, A+, etc.
  • Knowledge of database development and maintenance using Microsoft SQL Server

Year End Bonus

To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November. The bonus for this position is 8 hours of pay when a new associate joins Publix prior to July 1. There is no bonus in the first year for associates hired after July 1. In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to 8 hours’ pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check.
